ABSTRACT

A full-scale crash test was performed on the Powell Contracting Ltd. temporary concrete barrier (TCB) system utilizing the Test Level 3 (TL-3) safety performance criteria from the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH). This TCB system differs from the standard F-shape TCB system due to the material of the connecting loop bars being fabricated from Grade 44W ASTM36-08/ASME SA36-08A/ASTM A709-07 steel versus ASTM A706 Grade 60 steel. The crash test consisted of a pickup truck impacting the TCB system at a speed of 62.7 mph (100.9 km/h) and at an angle of 25.4 degrees. Following an evaluation of the test results, the Powell Contracting Ltd. TCB system was determined to satisfactorily meet the TL-3 impact safety standards provided in MASH.
