Can the PCB steel cover plate for large open joints design found in TRP-03-387b be used to connect two runs of PCB that are anchored in asphalt or concrete? The testing was completed using free standing barrier and we assume this was the critical condition. This is for a roadside application. Thanks!
Thanks for the question.
We believe that further research would be needed to address whether or not the cover plate for open gaps in PCBs could be applied to anchored PCBs. During testing of the system, significent barrier damage was noted to the PCB segment adjacent to the cover plate attachment. There may be concern that anchoring of the PCB segments would increase the barrier loading and/or the loading of the gap spanning hardware. Thus, further study would likely be required to alleviate those concerns prior implementing the system for an anchored application.
Thanks
