The RESTORE Barrier is a next-generation MASH TL-4 barrier that contains and redirects high-energy truck impacts as well as lowers forces imparted to vehicle occupants. The RESTORE Barrier has a hybrid steel and concrete rail supported by elastomer and sliding posts that allow the barrier to deflect and absorb energy upon impact and then restore to its original position. Accelerations to the occupant were reduced up to 47% in RESTORE passenger vehicle crash tests as compared to impacts with rigid concrete barriers. Minimal damage occurred during the full-scale crash tests, thus allowing the barrier to be restorable and reusable.
