ABSTRACT

One full-scale vehicle crash test was performed on Missouri's 6-in. barrier curb under W-beam guardrail. Test MO6C-1 was conducted with a 4500 lb test vehicle with target impact conditions of 60 mph and 25 deg. The potential safety performance degradation of using a 6-in. barrier curb under a standard G4(1S) W-beam guardrail installation was evaluated to determine the effects of the curb on vehicle stability during a redirective guardrail impact test. The test was conducted and reported in accordance with the requirements specified in the Recommended Procedures for the Safety Performance Evaluation of Highway Appurtenances, National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report No. 230. The safety performance of Missouri's 6-in. barrier curb under W-beam guardrail was determined to be acceptable according to the NCHRP 230 criteria.
