Bridge Rail?

Question
State NE
Description Text

I have a county road with steel posts connected to the top of the deck & a 8" channel connecting the posts, on the top of the posts.

Is there a bridge rail similar to this which has passed any testing?

If so, What height of w-beam is needed for TL-2 ?

From a very quick review, I recall that the enclosed schematic somewhat resembles the Missouri thrie beam and channel bridge railing system (Figure B7.9 in attached file). Of course, the main rail elements are different, and a comparison of other features would still need to be made.

Second, I recall the TxDOT conducting crash testing on a W-beam bridge rail, more specifically the T6 bridge rail. I believe that it met NCHRP 230 testing but failed TL-3 testing under NCHRP 350. I am exploring whether TL-2 has been granted.

I am enclosing details for the TL-2 T6 and TL-3 T101 TxDOT bridge railings. Let me know if you need anything else.
