Modification to Texas Combination Rail Type C411

Description Text	We would like your opinion to a modification to TXDOT’s Combination Rail (Type C411). We want to place a 6 inch thick sidewalk behind the rail (see page 2 of the attached) and we’re curious to know how/if this would affect the performance of the rail. Any thoughts you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Response (active)	To the best of my knowledge the system shown has been evaluated to MASH TL-2. We don’t see any structural or safety issues with installation of a sidewalk behind the barrier as long as the railing design and anchorage remained similar to the tested system.
